Career coaching & cross-cultural skill workshop for Law (International students)
This event is a group conversation facilitated by UTS Careers to discuss successful tactics to approach careers in Australia.
This event is a space for law international students, law study abroad and exchange students, and law students completing International Studies courses enrolled in both undergraduate or postgraduate degrees with an interest in cross-cultural communication career building.
The first session with Katie from UTS Careers will encourage you to ask questions, discuss career goals and learn from each other. You will also have the opportunity to share decisions you are making about your career, which will help us to identify strategies and establish goals with your peers in a supportive environment.
The session is guided by what you are interested in discussing, and could cover some of the following topics:
- Job application/recruitment processes in Australia
- Australian workplace culture
- Strategies to adapt to the Australian workplace
- The value of mentoring and networking
- How to approach certain workplace situations
The second workshop with Lézelle Jacobs, from UTS Faculty of law, will encourage students to consider some of the opportunities and challenges that international students face in foreign learning environments. We will encourage discussion around:
- useful approaches to aid your interactions with academics, tutors and peers
- general communication styles, and
- managing varying cultural aspects of new environments for success.
The session will be facilitated by Dr Lézelle Jacobs, Associate Professor in Law, who has experience in teaching international students at undergraduate and postgraduate level and has taught and lived in three different countries herself.
We will also have afternoon tea for networking with peers in a casual environment with the current Director of Students and a UTS LSS law student representative.
Follow-up resources and how UTS Careers can further support students will be shared.
Come join us as you prepare for your career while studying in Australia!
