UTS has definitely shaped my personal and professional development in a way that prepares me for...
Which high school did you attend? Sydney Grammar School
Which degree are you studying? What year are you in? 5th year, Bachelor of Medical Science/Bachelor of Laws
What led you to choose UTS for your studies in Law? I chose to study law at UTS because of its specific combination with medical science, the choice of completing the Practical Legal Training at UTS as well as its convenient location within the Sydney CBD. Now in the final year of my combined degree, UTS has definitely shaped my personal and professional development in a way that prepares me for entry into the legal industry. While UTS:Law offers excellent opportunities to develop your understanding and insight into important and current areas of awareness as well as the foundation subjects of law, UTS as a whole also provides support and promotes social events that bring faculties together.
Are you working while studying? How do you manage the competing demands of university and work? Currently, I work part time and study full time. I am also the Education (Internal Engagement) Director on the Council of the UTS Law Students’ Society. I have competed in several law competitions such as Mooting, Client Interviewing and Witness Examination as well as having represented UTS on a national level in the Negotiations Competition at the Australian Law Students’ Association Conference. Further, I have been involved as a leader of the Peer Network, which is part of the UTS Student Services, that provides support for incoming UTS students to settle into university as well as helping the international students feel at home.
What sets UTS students apart in your field? It is the opportunity to learn in such a flexible and supportive environment while balancing it with other work and extra-curricular commitments that, in my opinion, sets UTS:Law apart.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your degree? Why? From a student perspective, a highlight of UTS:Law is the practical focus upon delivery of the subject material and the approachable and passionate culture of both academics and students.
Has anyone in particular at the University had a significant influence on your studies? Through connecting with many students from different backgrounds, perspectives and talents, I have met many individuals who share the same passion in my hobbies of film and music. From this, not only have I developed another group of friends but have also been involved in various film projects that I conduct in my leisure. Ultimately, all these experiences have been a result of many opportunities provided by UTS and have since helped me in deciding what I would like to pursue as a career as well as simply having a great university experience.
What would your advice be for someone who is looking at studying Law at UTS? For students looking at studying law at UTS and would like to have the broad experience of not only a law student in a classroom but also one who is eager to participate in various challenges and extra-curricular activities then I would highly recommend UTS:Law, as for me, it was a choice which opened many doors and provided me with confidence for my next step in my career path.
