Sue is working on an action research project designed to strengthen maternity services in remote areas.
I decided to study at UTS as I had heard about the unique model of joint supervision and support that the university offers its students. Even though my research is based in the Northern Territory, I moved to Sydney to be a closer to this support. This involves several projects which will bring practical benefits to practitioners working in isolated areas. One of the best parts is working with the women in the Maningrida community in Arnhem Land where we are documenting birthing stories and discovering untapped reserves of bush medicine, lore and knowledge.
A successful research grant has made a huge difference to my project. I have learnt enormous amounts in the last two and a half years and have had incredible support and enthusiasm from both the supervisors and other students, all at different stages of their studies.
