Pi Day Eve at UTS
Kick off International Mathematics Day celebrations at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at UTS
Background
Founded in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, March 14 was selected because the numerical date (3.14) represents the first three digits of pi, and it also happens to be Albert Einstein's birthday
Pi Day is on March 14, and any day that combines fun, education, and pie is a day worth celebrating! Pi, also known by the Greek letter “π,” is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is just about 3.14
Event details
Kick-off International Mathematics Day celebrations at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at UTS. Join us for refreshments and Mathematics on Pi Day Eve (13 March 2023) from 4:30 - 6:30 pm on level 5 of Building 7 (Vicky Sara Building).
We will have food, chat, and break-out sessions on:|
- How to make money with calculus: Ito calculus and options pricing (Prof Tony Dooley)
- Fibonacci Numbers, spirals, and the structure of the galaxy (A/Prof Mary Coupland)
- Game theory: how to win (A/Prof Stephen Woodcock)
