The Visual Energy Group

Project details 

The Visual Energy Group draws from a wide range of disciplines: renewable energy systems, computer science; art; music; and architecture, to propose that renewable energy can be beautiful.  

Presented here are a series of multiple concept designs for public artworks that aim to engage audiences in discussions about the future. The artworks: The Sunshine Club; Sun Bird, Solar Chamber and Monument to the Sun use photovoltaics to self power: interactive; sound and light components within the work.

Any remaining energy collected can be fed into the grid and used to pay for the sculptures production. Making it not only self sufficent but the first public artwork to cover its own production costs. After it has paid for its own production, it would then contribute to offset the local areas power needs, helping the world to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

The artworks can be situated in various contexts, creating immersive experiences in the case of public art, or as public infrastructure that can provide shelter, night light and Internet of Things (IoT) information (text) and or comminication (voice).
