Australia’s aged care has been described as a "shocking tale of neglect."
Aged care’s financial crisis
The aged care sector in Australia has been largely characterised by one term - crisis.
In March 2021, the royal commission into aged care handed down its final report, revealing staff shortages, poor nutrition, and neglect were common in aged care homes throughout the country.
With the election this weekend, both major parties have made promises to address the aged care crisis.
But how did we get to this point in a sector that's so important to the lives and welfare of so many Australians? What are the structural issues that make fixing the problem of aged care so difficult?
In this episode of Think: Business Futures, presenter Stefan Posthuma is joined by Nicole Sutton and Nelson Ma, Senior Lecturers at the UTS Business School, and members of the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative.
