Where did you complete your undergraduate degree?
UTS (Bachelor of Medical Science)
Why did you choose UTS?
Within the medical sciences, it seems that many of the available courses get stuck in their teaching ways: they find a basic formula that works and they stick to that. This may be a good way of spitting out graduates with a sparkling GPA, but in terms of graduates that are ready for the real world, it leaves a lot to be desired. I think the Pharmacy faculty at UTS has noticed this trend, and are making moves to break it – and that was of great importance to me when choosing the course. Also, having completed my bachelor here at UTS, I knew the facilities here were top-notch!
Clinical placement
So far, my experience with clinical placement has been excellent. My preceptor has taken a keen interest in my learning, and I have been made to feel as much a part of the team as the full-time employees. As well as the activities given to me by UTS to complete, my preceptor takes the time to teach me the important issues, indications and counseling points for each range of over the counter medications; a knowledge base that has immediate benefits when working within the pharmacy setting.
Employment success
After a full semester of clinical placement, my preceptor offered me additional work on top of the half-day spent as part of clinical placement. This gave both myself and my preceptor the opportunity to reinforce what I was being taught, and to fit it around the busy periods at the pharmacy.
Would you recommend the UTS MPharm to others?
I can recommend this course to anyone looking for a career in pharmacy. UTS have a career-focused approach to pharmacy, giving real-world experience immediately; and keeping the future of pharmacy practice in mind at all times. If your goal is a job within the world of pharmacy, the M.Pharm at UTS is the way to go.
