Duo d’Amore - An APQ Concert Event
This concert is a celebration and examination of creativity through adversity. The unexpected leading to artistic genius.
From Mozart’s serendipitously written viola and viola duo (composed to help out a friend in need) to Jack Symond’s new solo viola Sonata inspired by Sydney’s lockdown. This program features works that extend boundaries, yet they were inspired by limitation.
The title of the program is inspired by the extraordinary viola d’amore. This 14 stringed, hybrid instrument of the 18th century allows for an amazing array of ‘special’ effects. Stamitz’s extraordinary Sonata is a masterpiece of the Mannheim school and shows the viola d’amore off to its best.
Paganini’s Caprices are the staple of violin technique. Extending the possibilities of the hand and the mind! A selection will be presented in an arrangement for 2 violas. Paganini himself was a violist so this version has an element of legitimacy.
Heather Lloyd is one of Australia’s most accomplished ensemble players. She exemplifies the role of the violist - having both, a captivating individual voice alongside the selfless ability to support and become someone else. Two beautiful arrangements by Leclair and Morley will be presented as viola duos.
