The School of Electrical and Data Engineering teaches in the areas of networking and telecommunications, cybersecurity, data science engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the Engineering and IT programs.
Teaching and learning
Undergraduate programs
At undergraduate level, the School offers Data Science Engineering major as part of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Program. This is the first program in Australia focused on developing professional engineers with the specific knowledge and skills to build and maintain secure big data systems to enable business and society to maximise the potential of our data-driven world.
The skill-set of a data science engineer, or data engineer for short, is one of the broadest in the industry, encompassing data warehousing, 'extract-transform-load' (ETL) tools, distributed systems, and machine learning. Data science engineers play pivotal roles in key sectors including finance, healthcare, e-commerce, transport, defence and media companies.
Our Data Science Engineering major prepares graduates with the theoretical foundations, entrepreneurial values and professional skills required to build and manage secure data platforms of all sizes. Graduates gain skills in research and advanced practice, and the capacity to embrace innovation in order to achieve excellence in engineering.
Customise your degree with these four majors:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice, major in Data Science Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice, major in Electronic Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice, major in Electrical Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice, major in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
The School also teaches an undergraduate major in Networking and Cybersecurity within the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. This major prepares IT graduates with the professional knowledge and skills to work as network administrators, designers and managers, as well as network security specialists.
Postgraduate programs
At postgraduate level, the School delivers Masters programs in the areas of internetworking, telecommunications, cybersecurity and electrical energy systems. The first three degrees are focused on developing advanced professionals and future researchers in the field of networking, telecommunications and cybersecurity offer students the chance to blend curriculum from leading industry vendors together with the study of emerging networking technologies from our world-leading researchers. Our postgraduates electrical engineering program develops professionals with skills in building future-ready sustainable electrical energy systems
