Our research profile and successes
The school is a leader in the discipline of civil and environmental engineering in Australia. The school has an outstanding track record in its ability to attract competitive research funding, has ongoing collaboration with industry partners on innovative research, has an impressive publication record and over 200 higher degree research candidates. With a combination of existing senior academics and the appointment of several new researchers, the school’s research profile has gone from strength to strength in recent years across a wide range of areas. Recent successes include:
- In 2022 the school secured over $11 million in competitive research grants from funding bodies including the Australian Research Council (ARC), SmartCrete CRC, Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP), Transport for NSW and the Qatar Foundation.
- The School hosts the ARC Research Hub in Nutrients in a Circular Economy (NiCE) in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, which was launched November 2022.
- In 2022, eight of the school’s researchers were selected by Clarivate as Highly Cited researchers.
- Award winning researchers, such as:
- Dr Peter Irga who received the 2022 Young Tall Poppy Award.
- Professor Wenshan Guo who received the “Excellence in Women in Research Award” at the 2022 ANZ Scopus Researcher Awards.
- Professor Qilin Wang was named as an Australian Field Leader in Water Supply & Treatment by The Australian in 2022.
- UTS Water Resources was ranked #1 in the world by the 2022 US News Best Global Universities Ranking.
