Sydney Quantum Academy PhD Scholarships now open
The Sydney Quantum Academy and the UTS Centre for Quantum Software and Information are seeking talented and enthusiastic students to help contribute to Sydney’s quantum technology ecosystem.
Are we at the beginning of a quantum revolution? UTS PhD student Fabio Henriques explains what interests him in the field of quantum. Fabio is a recipient of the Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA) PhD Scholarship. Here Fabio speaks about the benefits of being part of the Sydney quantum community and his research at UTS. Applications are now open for SQA PhD Scholarships. We're looking to fund outstanding applicants to work alongside leading quantum researchers, join a supportive community and gain career development on a competitive stipend of up to AU $35k p.a.

i've always been
00:03
really passionate about physics since i
00:05
was young because
00:06
i think it gives you the best
00:07
opportunity to really understand the
00:09
nature of reality
00:10
and with quantum mechanics in particular
00:12
it gives you an opportunity to explore
00:14
the inner workings of the universe
00:16
at a microscopic level there are effects
00:18
like quantum entanglements
00:20
long-range correlations and interference
00:22
effects that nature is just giving us
00:24
for free
00:25
and will provide a huge benefit for
00:27
current and future technology
00:29
and also for society as a whole quantum
00:32
simulation
00:33
is one of the main applications of
00:35
quantum computing it will help in the
00:37
development of new pharmaceuticals
00:39
new renewable energy sources new
00:41
materials
00:42
many other things that we cannot even
00:44
think of i love the tech aspect of
00:45
quantum computing so as you can see
00:47
behind me we get to work with lots of
00:48
really cool
00:49
complex and interesting equipment and
00:51
it's really satisfying to develop a
00:53
mastery of that what excites me about
00:55
being part of the
00:56
sydney quantum community is that we have
00:58
one of the largest density of
01:00
researchers
01:01
in the broad spectrum of topics and we
01:03
can get to them just by hopping on the
01:05
bus
01:05
there are many benefits of the sydney
01:07
continent academy scholarship
01:09
i would say first and foremost from a
01:10
practical perspective
01:12
the scholarship provides me with the
01:14
funding that i need to be able to pursue
01:16
a phd full-time one big benefit of being
01:18
part of sydney quantum academy is it
01:20
gives me space to connect with peers and
01:22
academics from my own university
01:24
and the others across sydney
01:26

01:28
why did i choose sydney well it's just
01:30
great there are many startups
01:32
four universities and also industry
01:34
opportunities
01:36
working in sydney you really feel like
01:38
you're part of a world-renowned
01:39
community so it's really motivating to
01:41
come to work because you really feel
01:42
like you're
01:42
working with the best
