WHO CC Intern: Jason Degamo
A third-year UTS student in the Bachelors of Health Science, Jason has been interning at the Collaborating Centre at UTS for past three and a half months. Jason chose the Bachelors of Health Science as starting point for health education with his end objective of becoming a physiotherapist. Next year he plans to continue studying, hopefully entering his Master’s for physiotherapy at UTS.
Jason notes the time spent working for the Collaborating Centre as one of the most engaging periods in his education, this was the first time he got to experience working on community health projects which carried significance for Pacific communities. This tremendously changed his perspective on the value that public based health could provide for the communities. Jason also managed to delve in the knowledge of health professionals during the pandemic, managing to work on various projects directly related to nurses and midwives in throughout the Western Pacific. These lines of worked helped him to understand what it means to be a health professional and the responsibilities they carried to provide for their communities.
During his time Jason worked on a couple of projects such as the ANGAU Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project and Vanuatu Bachelor of Nursing Conversion program, providing written stories, documents edits and critical analysis for the duration he was there. Lastly, in reference to all the members who worked at the Centre, nothing more could be said on how great the treatment and leadership Jason received from them while under internship. Specifically, under his Supervisor Tasnuva Tisha who helped guide him throughout, respect can only be given to a woman who conducts herself with such professionalism at every point.
Reflecting on his time at WHO CC UTS, Jason is grateful that he was able to work at the Centre during COVID-19 period feeling that had grown his skillset and perspectives in the health industry.
