With hope that the coronavirus infections are reaching a peak, we are now left to face the music. What macroeconomic and financial problems do we have to confront in the aftermath? How do we navigate the exit in this new world?
In this presentation Industry Professor Warren Hogan will discuss the macro financial dynamics of the COVID-19 shock, including:
- What does the initial economic shock look like and what existing vulnerabilities are exacerbated by the economic downturn?
- The Australian emergency policy strategy explained.
- Impact on financial markets and the banking system?
- Overview of global economic and financial impacts.
- Initial thoughts on the exit strategy for governments, business and investors.
Financial Industry experts, Vimal Gor and Nathan Lim will engage in Q&A and/or respond to Professor Hogan’s presentation. Followed by Dr Kylie-Anne Richards commentary on impacts to market function.
Warren Hogan – Industry Professor, UTS Business School
Professor Hogan is the UTS Business School Executive-in-Residence since 2018. Previous roles include Chief Economist at ANZ, Principal Advisor at the Commonwealth Treasury, Chief Economist and Head of Interest Rate Research at Credit Suisse.
Vimal Gor - Head of Bond, Income & Defensive Strategies, Pendal Group
Vimal Gor is the Head of Bond, Income & Defensive Strategies boutique at Pendal Group. He has over 25 years’ experience as a Portfolio Manager with previous roles at Aviva Investors, Scottish Mutual and Murray Johnstone. Vimal Gor is an Industry Fellow at the UTS Business School.
Nathan Lim - Head of Wealth Management Research, Morgan Stanley
Nathan Lim is the Head of Wealth Management Research at Morgan Stanley. His previous roles include Portfolio Manager at Australian Ethical Investment and Three Pillars Portfolio Managers. Nathan Lim is an Honorary Adjunct Professor at UTS Business School.
Kylie-Anne Richards – Lecturer (Finance), UTS Business School
Dr Richards is a Lecturer in the Finance Department at UTS since 2019. Previous roles include Director at QTR Capital, Head of Financial Engineering for Asia Pacific at Macquarie Group, Head of Indexation and Quantitative Trading Research at CLSA. Dr Richards holds a PhD in statistics on Modelling the Dynamics of the Limit Order Book in Financial Markets.
