6 UTS clubs and societies you’ve never heard of
Study is important, but so is life beyond the classroom. At ActivateUTS, we’re all about getting you into the swing of university life.
One of the best ways to kickstart your UTS social life is by joining one of our student clubs and societies. Join us at O’Day on 27 February to find out more – with 165+ clubs and societies to choose from, there’s bound to be something for you.
Here are just some of the weird and wonderful options on offer.
1. Dog Society
Love puppers? Can’t resist a good boi? Then the UTS Dog Society will be right up your alley. From dog meetups to raising money for canine-related causes, this club will connect you with other doggo lovers and their furry friends.
2. Intents
Geddit? It’s a camping society – or, as they describe themselves, a club for people who ‘love getting wild in the wilderness.’ Whether you’re Bear Grylls or a first timer wanting to toast marshmallows around a campfire, Intents will get you out of the city and into the great outdoors.
3. Scuba Club (DOUTS)
Scuba diving can be expensive, but not when you do it with the UTS Scuba Club. These guys are all about diving trips that won’t break the bank. They’ve even got their own boat, their own ute, and a wealth of experienced divers to help you build your skills.
4. Barbell UTS
Their tagline is ‘Stay swoll’, but Barbell UTS actually has a simple mission: self-improvement through weightlifting. If you’ve got muscles to maintain or you’re starting from scratch, it’s a great way to get healthy in a fun and supportive environment.
5. Yugioh Club
Yugioh is a card game based on a manga series of the same name – using cards, coins, dice and monster tokens, your aim is to decrease your opponent’s life points. From casual game nights to competitive tournaments, the Yugioh Club is open to everyone.
6. UTS Opaleyes (Quidditch)
The UTS Quidditch Team (yes, quidditch – the game from Harry Potter) is one of more than 30 quidditch teams in Australia and hundreds around the world. The team trains and competes in social competitions throughout the year, and they also hang out off the field as well.
