UTS Big Thinking: The Space Race to Cure Cancer
Hear from Dr Joshua Chou about his quest for a cure for cancer as we ponder how space can solve our earthly problems
Join us at the upcoming UTS Big Thinking event to hear from one of the Engineering and IT Faculty's brightest minds, Dr Joshua Chou about his research that is contributing to a cure for cancer.
Ahead of his journey to NASA in June, Dr Joshua Chou will discuss his ground-breaking research which has the potential to kill cancer cells. Learn about this international space mission where cancer cells will be sent into space to see if they behave as Dr Chou’s earthly experiments have, with some 80 to 90 per cent of the cancer cells dying without drug treatment.
Dr Chou will outline his research and recount his journey to making his huge discovery that could positively impact millions around the world.
This presentation will be followed by a discussion moderated by 2SER's breakfast host, Alex James with Dr Chou joined by a very special guest, Australia's first astronaut Dr Paul Scully - Power.
Dr Scully- Power is considered a world expert in remote sensing: visible, infra-red, radar and acoustic. Since his 1984 space mission Dr Scully- Power became the CTO of Tenix Group in 2004, and in 2007 was appointed chairman and CEO of SensorConnect Inc., a Silicon Valley high-tech company.
More recently Dr Scully-Power has been notably involved with the UTS School of Software. He initiated collaboration between UTS's Centre for Artificial Intelligence and The Ripper Group (drones for the saving of lives), which he co-founded, developing the world-first SharkSpotter, an artificially intelligent shark detection system.
