Distinguished Professor Jie Lu awarded Laureate Fellowship
Distinguished Professor Jie Lu is the first UTS academic to be awarded the Australian Laureate Fellowship by the Australian Research Council (ARC).
The ARC Laureate Fellowships support some of Australia’s top academics to lead research projects that will benefit our health, economy, environment and understanding of the world.
Professor Lu pioneers work in machine learning, fuzzy logic and its impact on data-driven decision making.
From early on in her career, Professor Lu has been committed not just to advancing her own research, but to driving a thriving research culture with the potential for widespread transformation – as well as opening up her field to more women to address the gender imbalance.
‘There aren’t many female leaders in engineering and IT area,’ said Professor Lu. ‘Throughout my time at UTS I have mentored and supported a large number of early- and mid-career female staff and PhD students, to help other women win positions and promotions, become principal supervisors to PhD students and really extend their careers.’ Read more about Professor Lu’s pioneering work.
