I want to inspire and empower nurses through the delivery of nursing education programs.
I always enjoyed studying science in high school, and from a very young age, I had an ambition to pursue a career in the medical field. I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of patients as well as helping the broader community. During my time at UTS, I have constantly been involved in various volunteering opportunities, which have allowed me to support, guide and provide advice to students transitioning to tertiary education.
I chose to study nursing at UTS because of the life-long learning opportunities as well as the abundant experience to be gained from various clinical placements throughout the degree. The overall course program for the Bachelor of Nursing also appealed to me, as I was able to get an idea the content that I would be expected to learn as well as the type of subjects I would study.
Why UTS? UTS attracted me because of its extensive facilities that are available to students, ranging from practice labs, simulation technologies to assignment advice at HELPS. This provides students with the ability to access various resources and feel assured that there is always help available if they feel lost. UTS’ practical approach has greatly benefitted my learning, as I was able to gain a deeper insight into the duties undertaken by Registered Nurses on my first clinical placements.
The clinical teaching labs and practice labs at UTS are truly amazing. The interior and equipment of these labs are identical to an actual hospital ward setting, which provides nursing students an opportunity to refine their skills, e.g. undertaking a patient's observations, handling different types of schedule drugs, undertaking various assessments, and more. I’ve found this very useful, especially before my first placement, as I was well-acquainted with various equipment in the hospital.
Learning a mix of practical and theoretical knowledge has so far helped me to develop a deeper understanding of the purpose of various medications and equipment used. And, as lecture and tutorial content is mostly available online, I’ve had the opportunity to revise and understand the content at my own pace when I need it.
In the future, I plan to undertake a postgraduate degree in Advanced Nursing. I want to inspire and empower nurses through the delivery of nursing education programs – to enable nurses to understand how to tackle different situations, as well as to receive the support that they need.
Nursing is a career that has endless opportunities and specialties, and in the end, all the hard work is worth it. My advice to prospective students is to be involved in as many opportunities and events at UTS as you can. For instance, UTS Careers can prepare you to land your dream job and will help you to improve your employability. Embrace opportunities with an open mind and take that leap to do things out of your comfort zone, because once you do, you’ll be surprised at how far you’ve come.
