Community projects as coursework
Not-for-profit, for purpose, and SME community organisations who need expert skills for a project, but don't have the resources or time to get started, can work with skilled and supervised student teams through UTS Shopfront at the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion to get their project done.
Shopfront's community coursework projects are one way that UTS is reaching beyond the boundaries of campus to deliver impact for communities. Placing students at the heart of the community sector to gain real world experience and make a meaningful difference, Shopfront's community coursework projects enrich our students' learning experience while delivering lifelong skills through work integrated learning.
Projects are currently open for the Spring Session (August to October), and Shopfront is welcoming submissions from community organisations who might benefit from participating in the program. The project types available for the upcoming session are: design and visual branding; market feasibility - planning for a new product or service, and; event design, development and management.
Since beginning in 1996, UTS Shopfront has facilitated over 1,000 successful projects by UTS students as part of their disciplinary coursework. It is now the longest running cross-faculty community engagement program in Australia. View the wide range of completed projects in Shopfront's archive, or in the video below.

For further opportunities for students to contribute to community, Shopfront also runs the UTS SOUL Award, an extra-curricular community leadership and volunteering program for UTS students, enabling them to gain skills while giving back to the community.
