Late night study in the Tower: important info
Next Wednesday 17 October, work will begin to replace the escalators that run between levels 4, 5 and 6 of the Tower. Our new escalators will be wider, safer, more reliable and ready for action in time for Autumn session 2019.
As the project involves dismantling and removing the existing escalators, as well as prepping the site and installing the new escalators, there will be some disruption including noise and dust.
The area surrounding the escalators will be partitioned off with floor to ceiling hoardings. Works will take place behind the hoardings throughout the day and you may hear some low-level noise.
To minimise disruption, noisy works have been scheduled to take place overnight. However, this will crossover with the upcoming exam period – and we know that some students prefer to study late into the night.
If you’re planning to pull an all-nighter or a late-night study session on campus, we advise finding a place to study away from the Tower during the noisy works periods.
When are the noisy works happening?
Noisy works are scheduled to begin after 10pm on these dates:
- Wednesday 17 October - Friday 19 October
- Monday 29 October – Friday 9 November
All noisy work will be completed by 8am the following day.
Where else can you study?
The Library is now operating on extended opening hours and is open to UTS students from 7am until 1am every day. The night-time security shuttle bus makes regular stops at the library and the front of the Tower, with services running between 6:30pm and 2am each weeknight.
Parts of Building 5 in Haymarket (next to the Library) are open 24/7, including Block A and the computer labs in Block C.
While Building 10 and Building 11 are closed to the public from 9.30pm, all UTS students can access both buildings after hours at all times using their swipe cards.
In Building 10, computers are available on entry level 2 and general study spaces on levels 3-6.
In Building 11, computers are available on levels 0 and 1 and general study spaces on levels B3-4.
If you have any queries about accessing our campus buildings, please contact UTS Security in person at the 24-hour security desk at level 4 of the Tower (CB01) or by calling 9514 1192 at any time.
