Australasian Skill Acquisition Network conference
This year’s conference focused on skill acquisition in sport will be held at the UTS Human Performance Research Centre.
The Australasian Skill Acquisition Network (ASAN), formerly known as the Australasian Skill Acquisition Research Group (ASARG), holds an annual conference that brings together Skill Acquisition researchers, students, and practitioners. The ASAN conference combines keynote lectures, oral presentations and three minute thesis talks as well as practical sessions in the UTS Skill Acquisition laboratory. This year, the conference is hosted by the Human Performance Research Centre in their state-of-the-art facilities in the Rugby Australia/University of Technology Sydney building. The ASAN conference is the ideal way to catch-up on recent developments in skill acquisition, talk about your research with a group of like-minded peers or gain a better understanding of other topics related to practical applications of skill acquisition research in sport. As always, ASAN prides itself on its friendly atmosphere, where students and academics are encouraged to share their work with others. This year is no different! We are encouraging students, early career researchers and established academics within the field of skill acquisition, with a particular interest in skill acquisition in sport, to register their attendance.
Program
This year, we have targeted keynote and invited speakers who will share evidence-based approaches to skill acquisition in high performance and school sport (more information on the keynote speakers will appear upon completion of the conference programme). The invited sessions will be supplemented by 30 min and 15 min presentations that provide established and early career researchers and research higher degree students with an opportunity to present their work on skill acquisition in sport, or its practical applications in sport. Students are especially encouraged to present ideas and preliminary research as well as evidence-based ideas for future research or collaborative work. Finally, students can also opt to present their work in a 3-minute thesis presentation, where they are given three minutes to present the relevance of their work to the audience, and gain their first experience presenting in front of like-minded peers and academics.
Finally, UTS will also be hosting short practical sessions in the state-of-the-art simulation laboratory. These practical sessions are the ideal way to experience some of UTS’ current research in skill acquisition. Attendance for these practical sessions will be through separate registration, which will be made available at a later date.
