What has been your favourite subject so far?
What advice would you give to students considering studying Global Studies at UTS?
Go for it! Get involved as much as you can, whether that’s learning a new language, being involved in the societies, completing internships that can be credited towards your degree and going away on exchange. You’ll come out with a fundamentally deeper view on global processes and where you as an individual fit in all of that.
What are your aspirations for after university?
Madeleine Paradise
Bachelor of Global Studies (Health Studies)
Academic highlights of Global Studies include Global Work, Global Governance, and, of course, my Health major. Assessments are hands-on, interesting, and simulate real-world problem-solving.
Why did you choose the Bachelor of Global Studies?
When I finished high school, I was a little unsure of exactly what I wanted to study – there were too many options! After 2 years of working and travelling, I found myself thumbing through the same UTS Global Studies pamphlet I picked up from a career advisor in Year 12. Travel really crystallised my passions, and I'm so glad it lead me to Global Studies at UTS.
What's it like to be a student at UTS?
Throughout my course, I’ve been able to travel overseas for Global Exchange to Regent’s University London and also complete the International Internship subject with Unbound in India – for which I received a grant from Global Short Programs to help with costs. This year, I’ve also become involved in the UTS Comedy Arts Performing and Revue Society, as a writing director and cast member for the 2019 Revue. Revue has been a real highlight of my time at UTS; it’s been fun learning experience, and I’ve made friends with students from other faculties that I might not have crossed paths with otherwise.
What have you enjoyed about the Global Studies course?
I really feel that Global Studies gives students the opportunity to thrive. With a wide range of majors to choose from, students are able to choose a focus that they're passionate about, while sub-majors and electives allow students to diversify their skill set. I've personally found skills in written communication and project management particularly useful professionally.
What are your career plans or goals?
Going into the workforce as a Global Studies (Health Studies) graduate, I feel confident working in either the public or private sector in policy, advocacy, or health promotion.
