What led you to choose UTS:Law for your postgraduate studies? “It’s now or never.”
This was the line that hummed in my mind when I thought about the prospect of postgraduate studies to broaden my career options. Once I crossed that hurdle, the decision to choose which university to complete my masters degree was relatively straightforward. I was looking for a specialist course that would enable me to join the dots of practice and legal theory as well as to enhance my knowledge of the current media landscape. The Master of Communications Law degree at UTS shone through by offering non-law graduates the opportunity to realise their study goals.
How will your studies at UTS contribute to your career? How have they informed the way you work? You really don’t just learn about law at UTS:Law. The fact that I am being taught by lecturers who have such an in-depth knowledge and practical experience in the field gives me a perspective-opening opportunity to consider how I could effectively apply the law to my work. In addition, the degree has established the springboard for me to improve my level of critical thinking, and competence in research and time management. These life-long skills are integral to the success of any working professional.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your degree? The degree has broadened my career options by providing me with the updated profession-specific knowledge I thirsted for when entering the course. I am now able to contextualise the research and analytical skills I have learnt in my professional life. It is most rewarding to know that upon completion of this degree, I can optimise my work performance with a refuelled knowledge base and elevated confidence.
Has anyone in particular at the University had a significant influence on your studies? You can be assured that when you are seeking guidance during your studies at UTS:Law, there will be helpful staff whom you can turn to for help. From the lecturers to the Program Head for my course, their dedication and willingness to answer questions efficiently and work with me to personalise my study plan have enriched my learning experience. They have made me realise that just as there are new possibilities to discover in the law-making process, the same can apply to one’s education and career path.
What would your advice be for someone who is looking at studying Law at UTS? It’s now or never. Going back to study is anything but an easy journey. It requires ongoing commitment and dedication, however the task is achievable. UTS:Law empowers students with the adequate resources and support to help you make a smooth transition to the study environment and maximise your capacity to progress in your chosen career.
