Hi, my name is Jing Ying and I’m studying my Masters in IT with majors in Business Information Systems

UTS has a very practical approach with the subjects and assignments they do.

So in terms of coming to workplace and my career, it really helps with working with people as well as knowing the skills and being able to apply those skills

For example in project management

So I decided to study at UTS because of its focus on technology as well as the facilities that they have

For example, when I was doing LAN routing, they have the labs right here and they’re also linked and partnered up with Cisco

And also because it’s a young university, they are always changing which I think is really good

For the past year, I’ve been involved with the Lucy Mentoring Program which is organised by the Women in Engineering and IT and that is a one-on-one mentor-mentee relationship where we’re paired with someone from the industry and they try to match you as close to what we are looking for and what the mentor can offer.

So, this semester I was paired with someone from PwC and the mentor has his own team in architecture in IT. It was really great getting to know what the different teams do and getting an idea of how all the different units fit together as well.

If I could only pick one highlight of my experience so far at UTS, it would have to be one of the subjects I was doing this semester that was in a subject called Technology Innovation Management that’s opened to both IT and Engineering students. But what I loved most were the teams that I was working in. the commitment and the passion people wanted to innovate and try different, new things.

In 5 years time, I see myself in somewhat a managerial role where I would have a small team under me running projects. Not too sure why yet but yeah, managing projects hopefully.
