Lifestyle
There is always something to do in Sydney whether it’s hitting the beach, visiting a museum or going out to dinner. The Sydney guide (opens an external site) is full of great ideas.
The Beach
Sydney is lucky enough to have beautiful surf beaches along the eastern suburbs coast, northern beaches and southern suburbs and a number of calm harbour beaches, with and without shark nets. As beautiful as they are, all water is potentially dangerous and you should observe all warning signs and notices. Most – but not all beaches – are patrolled by surf life savers (opens an external site), and swimmers should always follow the advice of the life savers and swim between the red and yellow safe swimming area flags. The Australian Water Safety Council has a strategy (opens an external site) to reduce all drowning deaths.
Sydney Events
Sydney has major events on all year round from the Sydney Festival, held each January, to the annual New Year’s Eve celebrations that fill the night sky with an incredible fireworks display. From film to theatre, music to art and sculpture, our calendar of events and What’s On (opens an external site) are good places to start your cultural journey.
Eating Out
Sydney is a global food city with dining options from hundreds of cultures and nations. Choose from fine dining, more casual bistro-style food, pub grub, food trucks, cafes, food markets and festivals. Time Out (opens an external site) and Good Food (opens an external site) are great sources of foodie news and ideas for where to eat.
Sport
Like all Aussies, Sydneysiders love sport. From summer twilight sailing to AFL and rugby league, tennis, horse racing, swimming, cricket, netball and much, much more, Sydneysiders love to get into it.
