What motivated you to study this degree?
I became very fascinated by the law and wanted to pursue a career where I could amalgamate my two key interests - medical science and law.
What is it like to study at UTS:Law?
UTS:Law not only provides modern and practical teaching methods, but also offers a range of opportunities that allows being a law student enjoyable and engaging. I have developed a number of skills, confidence and personal growth from the platform UTS:Law provides. There is a positive and energetic vibe that UTS:Law offers, creating a very fulfilling, motivating and rewarding experience.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your degree? Why?
The practical engagement of the law is very rewarding, as it is encouraging to “practice” as a lawyer and get a feel for the profession. It is incredibly rewarding to observe my own personal growth from the experiences and skills developed throughout my degree by taking advantage of the diverse range of opportunities offered by UTS.
Where would you like your degree to take your career?
My goal is to amalgamate my degrees and practice as a lawyer, specialising in medical law.
Are you planning to be admitted as a lawyer or using the legal knowledge & skills to support your career path or vice versa?
I am planning on being admitted as a lawyer and practicing in medical law.
Are you working while studying? What does your job involve? Is it related to your degree?
I work part-time in a government sector, dealing with privacy legislation in relation to government records. This relates to my degree in engaging aspects of family law and privacy law, as well as developing analytical and research skills.
How do you manage the competing demands of university and work?
It is important to strike a balance between university, work and a social life. Maintaining that equilibrium is critical to ensure you do not burn out, remaining happy and equipped to stay on top of the competing demands of university and work.
Have you been involved in extra-curricular activities such as the Mentoring program, Brennan program, Mooting, LSS? How has this experience aided your career/personal development?
I have been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities, such as Negotiation, Mooting, Workshops and the Brennan program. These experiences have aided my career and personal development by providing a new skill set, particularly in relation to communication skills, critical thinking, community engagement and overall confidence.
What would your advice be for someone who is looking at studying Law at UTS?
I highly recommend studying Law at UTS, as the modern practical teaching approach coupled with the wide range of opportunities provides an enjoyable and rewarding experience, allowing for substantial career and personal development. I would advise someone looking at studying Law at UTS to take advantage of these opportunities UTS offers to build a diverse skill set and personal growth.
