I always wanted to work “somewhere in sport” so after completing school, the UTS Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Management degree was very appealing to me. Over the three years it provided a strong overview of a very broad and diverse industry, with a variety of opportunities to apply the theory learnt.
During my UTS studies I worked part-time at the AFL as a game development officer, running clinics and carnivals in local schools and communities. I then landed an entry level role at the Sydney Cricket & Sports Ground Trust in the membership department, working in the Venue Services office. This exposed me to the busiest sporting precinct in Sydney, meeting people from a range of different sporting bodies.
Twelve months later I was offered a role in the Events & Operations team, where I'm responsible for the planning and delivery of events and commercial activities at the SCG and Allianz Stadium. I currently manage the Cricket (International, Big Bash and domestic), Sydney Swans and Sydney Roosters seasons. Prior to this I was involved in the Major League Baseball, Wallabies v France Test, FFA Cup, Waratahs finals, Concerts and the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
I liaise with a range of key venue stakeholders, having gained experience across match day operations, ticketing, event costs and budgets, team logistics, catering, signage, media, security, sponsor activations and more. At various times I can reflect back on an experience from UTS and get a kick out of applying it in the real world!
