Professor Jing Wang, KTP Visiting Fellow at UTS
Jing Wang is a Professor at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Wang’s research interest is in persistent luminescence materials and especially in bio-imaging.
Wang was hosted by Professor Dayong Jin, Director at the Institute of Biomedical Materials and Devices (IBMD) in the UTS Faculty of Science in August 2015.
Their joint research focuses on bio-imaging and optical imaging for biological applications. In particular, they are looking at persistent luminescence, the phenomenon encountered in materials which make them glow in the dark after excitation with UV or visible light.
“We want to look at persistent luminescence materials and how to use it in a bio-imaging bio-detector and also maybe biosensors” said Wang.
“I’m interested in how to design and synthesise the persistent luminescence materials, and with help from Professor Jin how to detect, and maybe even how to engineer the materials.”
Wang and Jin have been collaborating for the past two years. Last year, Professor Jin was invited to Sun Yat-sen University to collaborate on their research.
“Professor Jin is a world-class expert in biophotonics and optical engineering,” said Wang. “I think our collaboration will contribute greatly to my research, and also benefit his research.”
During Wang’s visit to UTS, Professor Jin was awarded an Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research – one of Australia’s most prestigious science awards.
Wang’s visit has also encouraged discussion about further research collaborations, particularly joint publications and student exchange programs.
