Networking with industry professionals is one benefit of working on an industry project.
Courtney Sullivan is a second year PhD student from the Faculty of Health and working on an industry project with the Carlton Football Club. The aim of her industry-based research is to develop objective models for the assessment and development of talent by identifying the factors associated with short-term and long-term success in professional Australian Football players.
"My research focus is the career of professional Australian Football players and the factors associated with career success. The outcomes of my research will assist management, coaching and recruitment staff in identifying, managing and developing professional Australian playing talent."
Working on an industry project has many benefits, says Sullivan. "I develop fundamental research skills while gaining practical experience and skills from being embedded within an elite sporting club."
"The best of both worlds", is how Sullivan describes her current industry-based doctorate as it provides her with many opportunities to network with industry professionals.
Choosing to study at UTS was an easy decision says Sullivan, "It was the quality of UTS academic staff and their links with industry."
