2015 LGMA Management Challenge
ACELG is again supporting the LGMA Australasian Management Challenge in 2015, the premier forum for the local government sector for current and emerging leaders to deliver personal, team and organisational professional development.
Consortium partner, UTS: CLG designed this year's challenge task and facilitated sessions at Regional Challenge days in NSW. Centre staff are also responsible for the design and facilitation of the Australasian Finals in June.
As a first 'challenge', 111 council teams across Australia and New Zealand completed the Pre-Challenge Task, based this year on the LGMA National Congress theme 'The Value Proposition'. Three of the top scoring pre-challenge task submissions were showcased at the Congress in Darwin: Murrindindi Shire Council (VIC), City of Darwin (NT), and Charters Towers Regional Council (QLD). Sophi Bruce, Program Specialist at UTS:CLG facilitated this session.
The second challenge was the performance of teams at Regional Challenge days between 16 -27 March in Australia. Regional challenge winners were: Marrickville City Council (NSW), City of Salisbury (SA), City of Palmerston (NT), Murrindindi Shire Council (VIC), Tauranga City Council (NZ), Mackay (QLD), City of Joondalup (WA) and Kingborough Council (TAS).
All will convene for the Australasian Finals to be conducted in Melbourne on 19-20 June.
ACELG research has informed content for the tasks. The experience of participating in the management challenge can be utilised as credit towards entry to graduate programs offered by UTS:CLG as a pathway to further learning about management and leadership in local government.
