KTP focus: TU Berlin
Established in 1879 through a merger of the Berlin College of Civil Engineering (Bauakademie) and the Royal College for Vocational Studies, Technische Universitat Berlin (TU Berlin) (opens an external website) is considered one of the largest and most prominent research universities in Germany. TU Berlin is a member of the TU9, an incorporated society of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. It also belongs to the Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research. In 2014, TU Berlin was ranked 192 by the QS World University Rankings and ranked in the top 400 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
The university is comprised of seven faculties: humanities, mathematics and natural sciences, process sciences, electrical engineering and computer science, transport and mechanical systems, planning and building environment; and economics and management.
TU Berlin and UTS share common research strengths in various academic fields including materials science, design and manufacturing, cyber-physical systems, energy systems and sustainable resource management, infrastructure and mobility, knowledge and communication systems, human health, urban and environmental planning.
