John Brogden addressed graduates from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the Great Hall, City campus, Tuesday 6 May 2009, 10.30am.
John Brogden is the Independent Chairman of Abacus Australian Mutuals, the organisation that represents Australia's 130 credit unions and building societies. John is also the Patron of Lifeline NSW.
From 2006 until 2008 John was the Chief Executive Officer of Manchester Unity, a mutual company providing health insurance, financial services and aged care and retirement services to over 90 000 Australians. In December 2008 Manchester Unity successfully merged with HCF.
From 1996 to 2005 he was the Member for Pittwater in the NSW Parliament and in 2002 — at the age of 33 — was the youngest person in the history of New South Wales to be elected to lead the Opposition.
John holds a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Sydney, is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UTS and, among other community activities, is an active patrolling member of Bilgola Surf Life Saving Club.
