A smart approach to big data
UTS can count itself one of the world's leaders in artificial intelligence research.
Global recoginition
The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has been recognised as a global top 10 university in artificial intelligence (AI), and number 1 in Australia, in the latest AI Research Index.
Associate Dean (Research Strategy and Management) of the Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT), Professor Michael Blumenstein, says the ranking reflects the high quality of research and teaching being done within the Faculty and across UTS.
We're using AI to solve real-world problems, transforming business, government and the future of work.

“The AI Research Index ranking is a testament to the talent and skill of our academics who are renowned worldwide and are leading the way in this rapidly evolving technology.”
Distinguished Professor Jie Lu is the Director of the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute at UTS, the largest AI centre in Australia with 30 core members (including 3 Distinguished Professors, 2 highly cited researchers, 2 IEEE Fellows, 1 ARC Laureate, 3 ARC Future Fellows, 1 QEII Fellow and 5 ARC DECRAs), 10 Postdocs and more than 200 PhD students.
Her Laureate fellow research is helping shape the way organisations use data and advanced machine learning to make intelligent decisions in complex and uncertain situations.
My colleagues and I are developing ground-breaking, internationally competitive basic and applied research on autonomous machine learning, while forging strong links among national and international research communities and industries.
