Outgoing UTS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Attila Brungs reflects on his 12 years at UTS
This month I depart UTS, which I have had the great privilege of serving for the past 12 years.
It’s an emotional time for me – a combination of pride in our collective achievement as a university community; excitement for the future; but also sadness to be leaving so many wonderful colleagues and friends, and a campus that I have a strong attachment to.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of leading UTS has been the opportunity to get to know so many of you, either as students or alumni.
Whether it has been through presenting our annual Alumni Awards, speaking at networking events, or visiting many of our international alumni chapters, from London and Singapore to Beijing – your achievements have provided me with constant inspiration.
During those 12 years, the global reputation of UTS and its teaching, research and the quality of its graduates, has risen enormously – and our amazing students and alumni are a very large reason for this.
UTS is now rightly considered one of Australia’s leading universities, and among the best young universities in the world.
I know I leave UTS in good hands. Our Chancellor, Catherine Livingstone AO and Professor Andrew Parfitt, our new Vice-Chancellor, will provide wise and inspiring leadership.
Despite the current challenges facing universities all over the world as a result of the global pandemic, I am extremely confident for the future of UTS and will be looking on as a lifelong member of the UTS community and helping whenever I can.
