International Law Student Workshop - Legal Writing and Legal Problem Solving
How to write, problem solve, and gain practical skills for academic success.
About the workshops
In 2024, the Faculty of Law are returning with an afternoon of international legal workshops designed to improve international law students' writing for academic and career success. You're invited if you're either an international student in an undergraduate, postgraduate, or inbound study abroad course.
Workshop 1 Legal Writing, presented by Associate Professor Maxine Evers, Director of Professional Programs, will develop your confidence to write as a legal professional. You’ll learn:
- Purpose of the writing task
- Structure of the writing task
- Finalisation and sign-off
Also, you'll get the opportunity to test out your new skills with time for in-workshop feedback from Maxine.
Workshop 2 Legal Problem Solving, presented by Lecturer Lisa Billington, will introduce you to the concept of legal problem solving. With opportunities to practice isolating and analysing legal issues from example fact scenarios, you'll learn how to reach the correct legal conclusion. The frameworks taught in this workshop can be applied to your assignments and workplaces to boost efficiency and accuracy.
Why come along?
Both workshops offer vital skills for law students. That's because they train you to "think like a lawyer". When you understand how to approach and write out legal problems, you also learn sustainable methods to help you in your career path.
Both workshops take place on Tuesday, 26 March, 2:00 - 4:30pm in the Law Faculty’s Postgraduate Lounge on level 14, room 130 (CB02.14.130).
Also, you'll love that there's a dedicated 30 minute window to recharge between workshops. That's where you can grab complimentary tea and meet your fellow law students and Faculty of Law representatives.
