IT Project subjects
Most undergraduate IT students are required to complete a capstone project specific to their major, normally in the final session of their course. The capstone project provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate your capacity to integrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout your course and apply them to a real-world IT problem.
It is also possible to undertake a generic project (31028, 31029 and 31030) as an elective subject (with the exception of C10219 BBus BScIT which has no electives); however, no more than two project subjects (including the capstone project) may be undertaken.
For UTS Launch, academic credit for undergraduate students may be gained by enrolling into 31008, 31009, or 31010 as an elective subject, as long as you have electives available. To do so, discuss this with your UTS Launch project supervisor to gain their support, and then fill in the IT Project Registration Form and enrol as per the steps below.
All project subjects require you to undertake significant independent work under the supervision of an academic staff member. There are normally no classes – you will generally have weekly or fortnightly meetings with your supervisor to discuss your progress.
For some projects (except 31248, 31280 and 41004), you are required to identify a suitable topic and find an appropriate member of academic staff to act as your supervisor, prior to formal enrolment.
How to enrol
You should start planning your project in the session prior to enrolment. The enrolment process for IT Project subjects (except 31248, 31280 and 41004) consists of the following steps:
- Find your topic and supervisor. If applicable, define your group for the project.
- Complete the IT Project Registration Form with your supervisor.
- Submit the form to the relevant Subject Coordinator for final sign-off.
- Submit an eRequest with a scanned copy of your completed form attached.
Note: Assuming you have completed Step 2 and your supervisor has electronically agreed to the project, the Subject Coordinator will cosign the electronic form and once this is complete, the subject should appear in your study plan. This can take up to two weeks to complete, so please be patient.
