Looking up at UTS Business School building and sky

Welcome to the UTS Business School, part of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), located in the heart of Sydney, on the unceded land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.

A different type of business school

UTS is a public university of technology committed to social justice, defined by our support for the economic, social and cultural prosperity of our communities.

Being part of such a progressive and innovative university offers us the scope and opportunity to be a different type of business school, one whose purpose is to lead education and research that enables business and organisations to contribute to the public good.

Find out about our vision, principles, work, education and place.

Welcome to UTS Business School and to our Sydney campus.

Our school is located on the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.

Those of us who live, work and study here owe our respects to their ancestors and their Elders acknowledging their ongoing status as the First Peoples of this place.

Our focus at UTS Business School has always been on practically relevant and informed education and research backed up with creativity and innovation in everything we do.

What really makes us different is that we back that up with a strong and explicit commitment to public value and social purpose.

Our vision is to be a socially-committed business school focused on developing and sharing knowledge for an innovative, sustainable and prosperous economy in a fairer world.

This vision impacts on everything we do.

At UTS Business School we invite you to join us as we work with our students, our academics and our industry partners to bring together a focus on practice, an innovative mindset and social value, in order to help shape people's careers and develop knowledge that will build shared prosperity in Australia and around the world.

Our vision

The world is in a period of unprecedented change, and that includes changing expectations of businesses and of business schools. Businesses have already begun to realise that they're expected to take more of a central role in addressing the critical social, political and economic issues of which they are a part.

Maintaining a ‘business as usual’ approach, where corporations are dedicated only to a narrow set of commercial imperatives, is no longer seen as defensible. For today's businesses, social impact, social licence to operate, sustainability and corporate purpose have been placed at the top of the agenda.

Our focus at UTS Business School has always been on practically relevant and informed education and research, backed up with creativity and innovation in everything we do.

What makes us different is that we back that up with a strong and explicit commitment to public value and social purpose.

A socially-committed business school

Our vision is to be a socially-committed Business School focused on developing and sharing knowledge for an innovative, sustainable and prosperous economy in a fairer world.

This vision impacts everything we do.

It means that we educate citizens to be leaders and professionals who can not only perform the functions of business at the highest standard but also have a broader social and political understanding of the role of business and management in creating a better and more equal society on a global level.

Our work

UTS Business School consists of five academic disciplines – accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing. We are internationally recognised for our innovative research, with our academics taking a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach – bringing together skills and knowledge from diverse fields – to tackle the critical problems faced by businesses and other public and private organisations today.

Our research efforts are focused on developing knowledge that is not just characterised by scholarly excellence but also contributes more broadly to address the grand challenges of our time, such as inequality, climate, disaster, and populist extremism.

We work closely and collaboratively with businesses, policymakers and public institutions to produce socially responsible and economically fair outcomes, and use education and research as a pathway to individual mobility, social diversity and economic equality.

Our education

As a business school, we are committed to educating students from Australia and around the world to be career-ready, innovative, technologically savvy, and socially responsible.

Our education delivers a broad range of degree programs across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as a range of executive development, microcredential and short course programs.

Our practical and integrative approach to business education prepares students for a world that demands more than specialist expertise in a particular discipline. UTS Business graduates are ‘integrative thinkers’ who can combine traditional business skills with those from disciplines such as design and engineering to meet the challenges they face in a globalised world.

Indigenous knowledge is also part of our core curriculum, so we can ensure our graduates work with and for Indigenous Australians.

Our place

Located in the heart of Sydney’s thriving tech and innovation precinct, at the doorstep of the CBD, UTS Business School’s contemporary and collaborative approach to education is embodied in the design of our home, the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, designed by internationally-renowned architect Frank Gehry.

We respectfully acknowledge that we are located on the land of the Gadigal people, who have cared for their community, land and waters for thousands of generations, based on their deep knowledge of this country. For those of us who work and study here, we pay our respects to their Ancestors and their Elders, and acknowledge their ongoing status as the First Peoples of this place.

Acknowledgement of Country

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and the Boorooberongal People of the Dharug Nation upon whose ancestral lands our campuses now stand.
