Bachelor of Business tops state’s most in-demand degrees
UTS’s popular Bachelor of Business program has again been listed as NSW’s most in-demand business course for undergraduate students.
The Bachelor of Business took out the top spot for business courses for the fourth year in a row in 2021, with 1,030 students placing the course as their first preference, based on data released by the Universities Admissions Centre.
It was also the third most popular course in the state, followed by the UTS Bachelor of Nursing in fifth place.
As students begin to prepare for the first classes of Autumn session, Nicholas Schutte, who starts his Bachelor of Business studies this month, says he was attracted to UTS’s central location and dynamic campus, and the way the course allows him to shape his study path to his interests.
“The Bachelor of Business at UTS was my first preference. I really like how broad business is and the number of options it sets you up with. I’m thinking of majoring in Finance, but am looking forward to trying all aspects of business in first year to see what I like – it’s great that I can figure it out,” he says.
The degree has been designed to give students a strong grounding in fundamental business concepts combined with the flexibility to customise the course and explore 10 majors, 30 sub-majors, and 4 extended majors, making it one of the most dynamic business courses in Australia.
“I chose UTS because of the great internship opportunities and practical applications. Being able to apply what we learn in a real-life setting is great.”

Students are also encouraged to take their learnings into the real world and apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-life projects or business problems in a range of capstone subjects, as well as the opportunity to undertake an industry internship as part of their degree, providing students with more than 200 hours of work experience to give them a head start in the job market.
Fellow student Tifani Papas says the Bachelor of Business is a natural fit to help explore her passion for entrepreneurship.
“I have my own jewellery business, Soul Princess, and I’m really keen to take that to the next level. The foundation business subjects plus the opportunity to specialise in a particular area, teamed with the multiple opportunities to pursue entrepreneurship at UTS made it an easy choice for me. I’m excited to get started!”
For these commencing students, 2021 will look a little different, with UTS providing a range of flexible learning options to ensure an accessible, COVID-safe learning environment for all students.
“We’ll be offering students options for on-campus classes as well as access to teaching and learning activities delivered online, so students may be attending classes over Zoom, interacting with academics through Microsoft Teams or may choose to come to campus for workshops and tutorials. Each subject will be different and has been developed in a way to deliver them safely,” says Professor Sara Denize, Associate Dean, Education at UTS Business School.
While physical distancing measures will be in place, students won’t lack for social connection with UTS’s thriving community of more than 130 clubs and societies, start-up and innovation hubs, internship programs and career networking and support opportunities.
