What we do in finance at UTS
The Finance Department undertakes innovative teaching and learning across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our main undergraduate course is the Bachelor of Business in which the Department provides both majors, extended majors and sub-majors in finance. Our most important postgraduate coursework program is the Master of Finance.
Our vibrant research environment attracts top academic talent as demonstrated in the most recent ERA ranking (Excellence in Research for Australia). We were one of only four finance departments in Australia to have been awarded the highest possible ranking for our research by ERA. Our research was classified as being "well above world standard". We also offer a postgraduate research degree program, and currently have more than twenty students completing their PhDs. Our PhD graduates have been shown to be very successful in finding placements in both academia and industry. They have also been highly successful in having their work publishing in leading academic journals.
The Finance Department also places a heavy emphasis on industry engagement. We maintain an active group of industry associates who assist us in course development and research. We make use of a large number of invited industry speakers to present in our courses and give them a practical and industry relevant focus. We hold regular events where our research is presented to industry practitioners. We also actively engage with our alumni who are now working in industry.
