Finance Masterclass: Dual-Class Shares
UTS Business Masterclass in Finance: "Dual-Class Shares: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"
The Finance Department within the UTS Business School invites you to attend our first UTS Business Masterclass in Finance in 2019 featuring Mary Leung, CFA, Head, Advocacy, Asia Pacific at CFA Institute’s Hong Kong office and special industry guest and discussant, Nathan Lim, CFA.
The existence of dual-class shares (DCS) has generated much debate for over a century. Sometimes known as shares with weighted voting rights or unequal voting rights, DCS structures provide owners of certain share classes with superior voting rights, giving them voting control over a company that is disproportionate to their equity shareholding. Mary’s presentation will serve as a review of the current debate surrounding DCS and their emergence in Asia Pacific. Nathan Lim, CFA, Head of Private Wealth Research at Morgan Stanley, Australia, will put the topic of DCS into the Australian context.
This free Masterclass will conclude with a discussion lead by an invited guest from the local financial industry who will discuss with Mary implications for the Australian market.
