Speakers and topics include:
Dr Kenny Phua: Scams in Initial Coin Offerings - This study examines 5,935 ICOs to understand the economics of financial scams. Evidence shows that ICO issuers strategically target naïve investors by misrepresenting offering characteristics across listing websites. Misrepresented ICOs carry higher scam risk and attract less sophisticated investors, emphasizing the need for due diligence.
Associate Professor Vinay Patel: ‘Shadow’ Insider Trading - This study uncovers "shadow trading," a new form of insider trading involving ETFs containing target stocks in upcoming M&A announcements. Abnormal trading is identified in 3-6% of same-industry ETFs prior to announcements, amounting to $212 million annually. The findings indicate insider trading is more widespread than previously thought.
Dr Hardy Hulley: Super Fund and Regulation - This analysis examines distortions caused by the Your Future, Your Super performance test, shifting super fund objectives from maximizing returns to avoiding test failure. It highlights significant impacts on asset allocation, potentially harming long-term member outcomes, and emphasizes the importance of refining performance benchmarks to mitigate these effects.
