Mengheng Li has been promoted to Senior Lecturer
Dr. Mengheng Li from the Economics Department in the UTS Business School has been promoted to Senior Lecturer.
Mengheng joined UTS in 2018 after receiving PhD in econometrics from the Tinbergen Institute and Free University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. Li is an econometrician working in the areas of Bayesian econometrics and time series modelling. His work develops methods to improve forecasting of financial, macroeconomic and climate data. Dr. Li's papers have been published in the Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, among others. In UTS, he teaches statistics and econometrics methods. More information about Mengheng's research and teaching can be found on his web page.
Mengheng answered few questions after learning about his promotion:
What is the research project (past, current or future) you feel most proud about?
I am proud of the El Niño project. It is an interdisciplinary research that bridges climatology with econometrics. It is exciting to see how empirical economists can contribute to studies on climate change.
What are you working on now?
I am working on high-dimensional modelling of macroeconomic movement and uncertainty.
As you teach a challenging Business Statistics subject, what advice would you give to your students?
Students should treat Business Statistics as a new language, rather than another boring math subject. As everyone understands statistical concepts differently, it is important to discuss and share with peers.
What was the highlight of 2020 for you?
In my job, I enjoyed the recruitment process very much. It was a great experience to be on the other side of the table. Eventually, we recruited another econometrician. And in life, my daughter was born and I became a father!
Congratulations, Mengheng, with this well-deserved promotion!
