Overview
The UTS Hazard Information poster is displayed outside hazardous areas such as laboratories, workshops and plant rooms. It informs people working and studying in such areas of:
- safety hazards that may be encountered in the area e.g. ultraviolet light, ionizing radiation, moving machinery etc.
- precautionary measures that may be required e.g. the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), containment of long hair etc.
- contact details in case of an emergency or accident
- name and telephone number of the facility supervisor
- name, location and telephone number of the nearest first aid officer
- name and telephone number of the Building Services Officer corresponding to the facility for maintenance purposes.

Responsibilities
Managers and supervisors of hazardous areas are responsible for creating Hazard Information Posters and displaying them at the entrances to these areas.
The information on the poster should be reviewed:
- at least annually, corresponding with the need to conduct inspections of hazardous facilities against the lab and workshop safety inspection checklist (PDF, 169 Kb)
- when there is to be, or has been, a change in the types of activities typically performed in the facility e.g. commencement of new classes in a laboratory
- where there are changes to the staff mentioned on the poster i.e. facility supervisor, first aid officers or Building Services officers
- after an accident or incident in the facility.
