Evaluation of the health economic impact of increasing regional digital health ecosystem maturity.
Digital transformation and precision health are significant opportunities for health system optimisation and drivers of economic growth and productivity. However, to justify public expenditure and facilitate the transition to outcomes-based funding models in this space, health services must be able to accurately value the long-term health economic impact of enhanced digital health infrastructure, workforce capability building and other initiatives.

To facilitate the development of its five-year digital health strategy, Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) and NSW Health have partnered with the Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation (CHERE) at UTS, Digital Health CRC Limited, and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to evaluate the health economic impacts of NSW Health’s investment in digital health.
Through this four-year collaboration, CHERE and its partners will undertake a comprehensive baseline assessment of regional digital ecosystem maturity across a range of domains, including e-health services, electronic medical records, infrastructure, analytics, supply chain management and cyber security; develop new tools to estimate the health economic value of enhanced digital ecosystem maturity; and evaluate the impact of SLHD's digital health strategy on health care service provision throughout our region.
