Inspiring excellence
On August 11, 2023, the Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) at UTS hosted an "Inspiring UTS-SSTC Excellence" event to recognise and honour the outstanding success of the collaboration between UTS and the Sydney Smart Technology College at Northeastern University in China. This event also served as a unique opportunity to welcome the new students from this partnership, farewell visiting lecturers from SSTC and celebrate the academic excellence achieved by lectures and students in this partnership.
The event commenced with an inspirational keynote speech delivered by Mr. Iain Watt, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (International) at UTS. He acknowledged the transformative impact of this partnership in fostering global collaboration, cultural diversity and cultivating students to become the next generation of international leaders.
Professor Anne Gardner, Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning, FEIT) also recognised the joint efforts between UTS and SSTC to nurture talent, drive innovation, and enable students to make a positive impact in the community and thrive in an interconnected world.
The event was chaired by Associate Professor Diep Nguyen, the TNE Director of FEIT. Ten visiting lecturers from SSTC, colleagues from UTS International, Faculty of Science, Faulty of Engineering and IT and 76 UTS students transferred through UTS-SSTC joint programs attended the event.
A heartwarming video put together by the 1st cohort of students from SSTC was played in the event, to welcome the new students embarking on their UTS journey.
Professor James Brown, Discipline Leader (Maths) of the Faculty of Science announced the 2023 UTS-SSTC Best Student of The Year Award. In his remarks, he praised the outstanding academic performance of the first cohort of SSTC students at UTS and the importance of forging global learning experiences through collaboration.
