Research excellence lecture series 2024 – Prof JY Jeng
Join our Research Excellence Lecture Series featuring Professor Jeng-Ywan Jeng as he explores High-Speed Additive Manufacturing with DfAM.
High-Speed Additive Manufacturing with Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM)
Abstract
High-speed Additive Manufacturing (AM 2.0) will be explored through its energy application and patterning techniques. AM has transformed manufacturing by enabling complex designs, including topology-optimised forms, multi-material and functionally graded parts, and bio-inspired lattice structures like sea urchins, honeycombs, and trabecular cones. However, such designs are often process- and material-specific, making Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) tools crucial for optimising printability, enhancing customisation, selecting materials, reducing weight, and improving performance.
About the speaker
Professor Jeng-Ywan (JY) Jeng, uniquely combines experience in academia, the private sector, and public diplomacy in Taiwan. As Director of Taiwan’s High-Speed 3D Printing Research Center, founded by the Ministry of Education, his pioneering work in high-speed 3D printing and Design for Additive Manufacturing is globally recognised. Dr Jeng has also led Taiwan Tech’s College of Engineering, served as Taiwan’s Science and Technology Diplomatic Director in Moscow, and founded Taiwan’s EU FP7 National Contact Point. Additionally, he has been a visiting scholar at UC Santa Barbara, Cambridge, and ELI Prague and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Sydney.
This lecture was open to UTS staff, students, and the general public and is part of the Research Excellence Lecture Series 2024
