Planning larger scale urban developments on greenfield sites present particular and distinct considerations. Students conduct an integrated assessment of the existing community profile, environmental conditions, infrastructure and services, land use and density controls, transport networks, ecological characteristics, social determinants and planning policies for their chosen project site. Important planning techniques are applied by the team to forecast employment, undertake constraint mapping, social impact assessment and community consultation methods relevant to staged development projects over the longer planning timeframe. Students work in groups to brainstorm ideas around the development proposal, structure plan and the broader precinct plan.
