Hi there! I’m Josh – born in Philippines, raised in Sydney. I currently work as the Media & Content Coordinator for GUESS and Rag & Bone Australia. I’m passionate about bringing visual narratives and experiences to life – weaving in storytelling through fashion, media production, content creation and design.
Outside of work, I enjoy immersing myself in Sydney’s café culture and exploring new art exhibitions. As a creative, I find inspiration in well-designed spaces that combine great coffee with meaningful conversation.
And yes, I’ll admit – I’m a bit of a shopaholic! More so in my line of work. I’m always fascinated by local and international designers’ collections and how they live inside a well-curated store (plus, this gives me an excuse for new clothes as well!)

Visual Communication
I studied a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication at UTS and graduated in 2023. When I was first deciding on what to study at university, I honestly had no clue what path I would take – bottom-line was I wanted to do something CREATIVE. UTS provides a wide scope of options in this field but I was most drawn to Visual Communication as it seemed like such an expansive territory for a designer; where you could discover and adopt a multitude of different design skills – from print design, media production, photography, visual culture, etc. – All things I was very much thrilled to learn about.
From university to fashion media
I currently work in the marketing department at Signal Brands as the Media & Content Coordinator for GUESS and Rag & Bone Australia. My week at work can vary so much – from trade meetings in the office, concepting and directing our studio and location photoshoots, organising and attending PR events, etc. Each day presents new and exciting challenges that drive my passion for the work I do.
If there’s one thing my visual communication tutors always said, it’s to ‘iterate, experiment and explore different opportunities in the process’ – a saying you can apply not just to your creative practices but also to your career! My job requires me to constantly ideate and produce concepts for our brands and UTS’ emphasis on creative iteration really helped me to trust the process and produce a range of engaging content that captures stories and inspires imagination.
A journey into content creation
Social media played a significant role in shaping my journey. My first industry role as a content coordinator was with General Pants Co., which I landed while still at university. It all started with creating a few TikToks for them and soon enough, one thing led to another, allowing me to work with established brands and collaborate with talented creatives. These experiences have been instrumental in my growth and continue to inspire me.
I strongly believe in the power of creatives sharing their work. Whether through social media or other platforms, it's important to let your craft be seen and appreciated. Seeing the work of others, whether online or in person, always motivates me, and I think it's essential for creatives to inspire each other. These digital platforms have opened many doors for me, and I've found that it’s about being comfortable sharing your story – whether in real life or online. When you do, the right opportunities tend to come your way, often when you least expect them.
Looking ahead: A career in fashion
Furthering my career in fashion is one of the directions I want to continue to pursue and progress in. My love for design and wide scope of learnings from my Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication have allowed me to find a space in the industry to nurture and grow my skills. I aspire to always evolve my creative approach and continuously refine my craft. Whether through design, content creation or fashion, my goal is to shape my journey with innovation, authenticity and a strong narrative.
Advice for future students
The skills you gain at UTS will prepare you for a fast-changing industry where adaptability and fresh ideas are key.
Stay curious and embrace challenges. The creative field is dynamic, full of evolving ideas and mediums to explore. Continuously seek knowledge, push boundaries and trust your ability to grow. Step outside your comfort zone – you’ll be surprised by what you discover about yourself and the world. Trust your instincts, take risks and remember that growth often comes from embracing the unknown.
Pursue passion projects in your free time. Whether it’s a hobby or a creative challenge, these personal projects can help refine your style and showcase your unique perspective!
For prospective students, it’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out yet as well! University is about discovering your strengths and passions. What’s most important is coming ready to learn, experiment, and challenge yourself.
