The UTS Writers' Salon returns with Caroline Beecham discussing her new book Esther's Children.
The next UTS Writer’s Salon will focus on historical fiction, and specifically the latest book by Caroline Beecham, a fascinating look at a forgotten character from 20th Century history and the remarkable work done by the Society for the Protection of Science and Learning.

UTS Alum Caroline Beecham worked as a writer, producer and director in a range of genres in Europe, North America and Australasia before studying a Master of Arts in Creative Writing at UTS, learning the craft of novel writing at the Faber Academy in Sydney and with Curtis Brown Creative in London.
Her novels include Maggie’s Kitchen, Eleanor’s Secret and Finding Eadie. Maggie’s Kitchen was shortlisted for Booktopia’s Best Historical Fiction in 2016 and nominated as Book of the Year.
Caroline will read from and discuss her latest novel Esther’s Children, a book inspired by the remarkable life of Esther Simpson. Esther worked for the Society for the Protection of Science and Learning, a British organisation that helped to rescue thousands of academics and scholars of Jewish ancestry from the Nazis, by helping them find employment in Britain and other safe countries. Sixteen of them went on to become Nobel Prize winners.
Caroline will be interviewed by Nathan McMahon. Nathan recently finished his Masters in Creative Writing at UTS, is a father of two year old twin boys, and is currently editing his first novel which he wrote entirely on his phone. This Salon will also feature readings from current UTS creative writing undergraduate and postgraduate students.
