We leverage and support the reputation UTS has for producing highly-employable graduates for the global workforce though integrated research-inspired and practice-based teaching with innovative technology. The UTS Model of Learning guides what our students learn. A framework for practice-oriented learning guides how we design curriculum and links to the development of graduate attributes – essentially, what we want our students to become.

Forensic Science
Our forensic science curriculum seeks to future-proof our graduates so they can respond to the rapid changes in the disciplines, including the advent of digital forensic science in investigations. Our forensic science courses provide strong fundamental underpinnings for students who subsequently develop specialised skills in their chosen sub-discipline, namely crime scene investigation, forensic chemistry, forensic biology or digital forensic science. Our students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including brand new crime scene simulation laboratories and cutting-edge analytical infrastructure that mimic real life forensic science laboratories.

Mathematical Science
Mathematical Sciences sit at the centre of the data revolution providing the underpinning of the tools that refine and unlock information for data-driven decisions. The new Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences curriculum equips students with the foundational skills in mathematical sciences and the modern computational approaches sought by industry and government to meet their expanding requirements in the data-space. Through our various connections there are possibilities for internships in the third year of study. The revised Major in the Bachelor of Science equips students with a more rounded science base integrated with specialisation in mathematics and statistics. At post-graduate level we have a strong emphasis on the application of mathematical and statistical modelling, particularly in the area of quantitative finance; and strong connections to the quantitative finance sector in Sydney.
Physics
Our physics curriculum places a strong focus on building advanced experimental skills in the key growth areas of photonic and quantum technologies, space and defence technologies, and two-dimensional and meta-materials.
Chemistry
The Chemistry major focusses on producing well-rounded science graduates. Students will acquire an in-depth understanding of five core branches of chemistry, with a particular focus on analytical chemistry where students get hands-on experience using equipment widely used in environmental, forensic, and diagnostic laboratories. Structured electives across the three year program also allows students to explore a second discipline such as physics, biology or environmental science. This curriculum provides graduates with a widened skills set and greater employability.
Internships
Our courses allow students to engage with industry by choosing to undertake an internship with an external organisation (e.g. business, external research institute) or with a UTS unit. These experiences assist in developing professional attributes related to employability, discipline knowledge and professional networks, which can contribute to career goals.
Mathematics and Science Study Centre
Not confident with your maths but love Science? Don’t worry!
The Mathematics & Science Study Centre (MSSC) provides support to all UTS students in mathematics, statistics and science areas and assists in narrowing the gap between high school and university studies that involve mathematics and science. We do this through a drop-in centre where academic staff members are available for personal tutorial assistance, or any mathematical/science study related issues. The drop-in centre is also a popular place for a group study.
The School also offers short one and two-week intensive Bridging Courses in February for students entering tertiary study. The courses in Maths, Chemistry and Physics are for anyone planning to pursue any University course which includes some mathematics. This may include students enrolling in courses such as science, engineering, business, nursing, architecture and IT.
