I am a PhD candidate at UTS, with a research focus on women and alcohol use disorders.
I am employed as a clinical nurse specialist in drug and alcohol nursing, and a casual academic at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) within the School of Nursing & Midwifery.
RESEARCH THESIS
Factors that facilitate treatment uptake for women with alcohol use disorders.
Harmful alcohol use among some groups of women is increasing globally. Despite being more susceptible to the negative health impacts, women are less likely to seek treatment due to factors such as societal stigma and fear of judgement.
Little is known about the factors that support women to access alcohol treatment, but research has identified the need for further study in tailored approaches to reduce harms from alcohol use in women.
The aim of my study is to explore the treatment approaches that can increase access for women with alcohol use disorders, and the role of stigma as a barrier to seeking help.
A mixed method will be used to investigate women's preferences and experiences of treatment, in order to inform the implementation of effective and women-focused interventions.
